How long can you store dietary supplements? How can you best preserve them? Let's take a look!

9 tips for properly storing your dietary supplements

The way dietary supplements are stored should not be overlooked. Say goodbye to leaving your vitamin box in the car in direct sunlight! Follow our guide; here are all our tips for optimizing the quality and shelf life of your dietary supplements:

- Keep the original packaging and store the supplements in a dry, dark place at room temperature.

- Avoid storing your supplements in the bathroom or kitchen (these rooms are humid and subject to strong temperature variations).

- Always close the jar tightly and do not completely remove the lid.

- If you find silica gel in the box, do not remove it: it helps to absorb moisture and protect the capsules.

- Opt for a wooden or bamboo spoon for powdered or liquid products. Metal can sometimes interact with certain active ingredients.

- Do not use a wet spoon in a powdered supplement (beware of lumps!).

- Avoid any contact of the hands, nose or lips at the opening of the container or dropper (the risk of contamination with microorganisms may reduce the shelf life).

- Keep an eye on the use-by date.

- Keep food supplements out of reach of children (ideally, put them in a high cupboard!).

How long can a food supplement be stored?

To preserve the quality of natural food supplements, it is important to store them in good conditions: temperature, packaging, expiry date… We answer all your questions about storing food supplements!

On average, most natural dietary supplements have a shelf life of two years. After this time, their vitamin content begins to decrease. If you consume supplements that are a few days or weeks past their expiration date, don't panic! They are generally not harmful to your health. They will simply be less effective.

Remember to read the instructions on the packaging carefully. You'll often find the phrase "best before" as part of a "use by" date. Only exceeding this date poses a health risk.

Do vitamins expire?

Because vitamins are sensitive to oxygen, they eventually expire after a certain period. At that point, they become biologically inactive. Some vitamins, like vitamin C and B12, deteriorate more quickly than others. Other, more perishable supplements (probiotics, oils, liquid solutions, etc.) can also be stored in the refrigerator.

Choosing quality food supplements

The advantage of a quality dietary supplement is that it will last longer and be more effective. But how can you tell if it's high quality? By learning to decipher the labels. Here are some important points to consider:

- the origin of the assets,

- the absorbability of nutrients and vitamins,

- the form of the supplement (capsule, ampoule, tablet, powder…),

- the dosage,

- the absence of colorants, synthetic preservatives, nanoparticles, palm oil and other such delights.

Generally, natural plant-based food supplements are the most powerful and effective. 100% natural, made in France, and certified organic, Atelier Nubio supplements adhere to a very strict quality and traceability charter, as well as a blacklist of ingredients .
