Diet impacts our weight, skin quality, and immune system function… but also our emotional balance. Anxiety, irritability, lethargy—it's time to indulge in "feel-good food"! Here are a few foods to help you see the bright side of life.
Marion Thelliez, a cheerful and food-loving naturopath, enthusiastically shares her favorite ingredients.
1- Vegetables!
Our digestive system functions optimally when we consume fruits, vegetables, leafy greens (vegetables, leaves, herbs, sprouted seeds, and young shoots), seaweed, nuts, and seeds. It's important to prioritize raw foods, as cooking damages many of the nutrients abundant in fresh produce and destroys enzymes essential for proper digestion. By consuming raw foods, we reconnect with our deepest needs and replenish our energy.
Secret #1: Vegetable Juices Made with a Juicer
A juicer is essential for removing fiber and obtaining a highly digestible juice that is immediately absorbed by the body. If you don't have one, a blender will crush the fiber, performing a preliminary digestion. The ideal composition: 70% vegetables and 30% fruit.
2- Good fatty acids
Our bodies need essential fatty acids. The membranes of our cells, starting with those of our brain, are largely made of fatty acids (phospholipids), and their health is directly linked to what we consume. Omega-3s play a crucial role. Numerous studies have demonstrated the link between omega-3 deficiency, inflammation, and depression. Small oily fish from cold waters (sardines, mackerel), rapeseed, walnut, flaxseed, and hemp oils, and chia seeds are among the richest sources of omega-3s.
Secret #2: THE CHIA
This small seed is packed with omega-3s and can be transformed into a delicious pudding (simply add plant-based milk and let it chill for a few hours), sprinkled on salads, or ground into smoothies.
3- Cocoa
Chocolate is well-known for its "feel-good" properties. To fully benefit from its virtues, it's ideal to consume it raw. Roasting cacao destroys some of its beneficial properties. Roasted chocolate may have a more temporary effect on well-being—mainly because it's sweet, fatty, and so tempting to the palate. Raw cacao is a superfood—its nutritional properties are remarkable. It contains a lot of magnesium, which helps combat stress, fatigue, and overwork, and prevents tetany. It also contains numerous vitamins, particularly those in the B group, which support the health of the nervous system. It's a powerful antioxidant that slows down cell aging, especially in the brain.
Secret #3: RAW COCOA POWDER
Mixed with date puree and a little hazelnut puree… it’s the delicious, healthy version of Nutella! 4- Seaweed: True powerhouses of vitamins, minerals, and trace elements, seaweed is invigorating, energizing, and boosts the body's natural defenses. It contains ten to twenty times more minerals and vitamins than land-based foods, and therefore has a positive effect on the brain. Seaweed from Brittany is the best choice! Freshwater algae, such as spirulina, chlorella, or klamath, are also true energy boosters (but they come from a bit further away!).
Secret #4: THE KLAMATH
Klamath algae is one of the most complete foods on the planet, and its richness in nutrients, polyunsaturated fatty acids, phycocyanins, and chlorophyll gives it such beneficial effects on the brain and nervous system that it is often called "the happy algae." 4- Fermented Foods. Food fermentation has been used for millennia to preserve food, modify its taste, and enhance its therapeutic properties: nutrients—especially those that regulate mood—become more bioavailable, and beneficial bacteria thrive, positively influencing brain function. While sauerkraut might immediately come to mind, fermented foods can also be consumed in the form of lacto-fermented vegetable juices, delicious Korean kimchi, or kombucha!
Secret #5: KOMBUCHA
This refreshing and sparkling fermented tea drink aids digestion by providing the body with beneficial bacteria and fighting certain invaders such as Candida albicans. While waiting for spring, these feel-good ingredients help you enjoy the colder months, embark on new projects, and live in harmony with your environment.
