IN RITUALS WITH FACIALIST CAROLE MANGARD
Atelier Nubio - 07/21/2026
Before we start, please introduce yourself.
I am Carole Mangard, a masseuse specializing in facial massage, but I also practice lymphatic drainage for the body. I am based in Paris in the Jourdain neighborhood. After a career in fashion, 6-7 years ago I decided to train in various facial massage techniques. I had the chance to try many of them during my travels in the United States and in hotel spas in Paris. Facial massage was then reserved for such establishments; I thought it would be really interesting to offer an accessible option with a more relaxed approach, a confidential setting, and customized treatments.
Did you always know you would end up taking care of others?
I didn't always know, but deep down there was a real desire! When I was working in fashion, I thought it would be for life; it was my childhood dream. But it's true that whenever my colleagues were looking for a new cream, a skin tip, or an address, they would come to me. I never would have imagined that it would become an integral part of my current work.
You have a particular approach to care: demanding yet sensitive. Where does this philosophy come from?
These are my two pillars because I can't imagine one without the other. Demanding for my clients who have taken this time for themselves, and sensitive because I don't think you can practice this profession effectively without sensitivity towards the person who comes to you and tells you about their life—a person you will touch for 1 to 1.5 hours. Women see their skin, face, and body change, sometimes abruptly, and society too often reminds them of what's wrong. I am there to reassure them, often to defuse the situation, and to make sure this moment does them good!
Tell us about your signature treatment.
This Signature treatment was the one I was looking for myself: a complete, generous treatment, both technical, with results, and immense relaxation. I didn't want to make compromises, so it includes everything I love: an upper body massage up to the scalp, deep work on the muscles, fascia, lymphatic system, different sensations and rhythms, and products serving the massage rather than the other way around. Intra-oral massage is a technique I love because, first of all, it's surprising, but incredibly effective for jaw tension, allowing for more precise work on the muscles of the lower face. The name is a bit "scary," but I wanted to make this technique accessible.
Among all your areas of expertise, which technique do you think offers the most benefits?
It's difficult to choose because they complement each other, and it really depends on each person's needs. Drainage is essential, and there are many different techniques that allow for true adaptation to each person's morphology. Intra-oral, as I mentioned, is very effective, especially for jaw tension, and of course, face lifting/sculpting. I love practicing these two techniques where we redefine contours by adjusting the speed and pressure of the movement. In terms of massage, that's what I prefer.
What would you like people to feel after being in your hands?
What I hear most often from my clients is truly the discovery of new sensations, feeling good in their own skin again, "feeling" their face more alive, and being a bit "stoned" ;-).
Have you always taken care of yourself?
With varying degrees of diligence, yes. As a child, I had eczema all over my body and was very allergic. I had no choice but to apply cream morning and evening, pay attention to what I put on my skin, and also what I ate. It became a routine that expanded. When I moved to Paris, I realized that ultra-hard water, pollution, and stress were real problems and that their impacts should not be minimized.
What rituals have truly changed the way you take care of yourself?
First ritual: don't feel guilty when you take time for yourself (easy to say, I know!) and do things you truly enjoy without expecting a measurable result. For example, I no longer exercise to lose weight but to do good for my body, and that has changed everything in my practice. Similarly with food, I eat balanced meals and prepare beautiful plates because I enjoy it. I take my time with my evening routine, I massage each product, release tension, and feel my skin.
What are your favorite Atelier Nubio rituals that accompany you daily?
The Bone Broths which I find excellent. I do winter cures to relieve and strengthen my digestive system and throughout the year to strengthen my joints. The Draining Elixir in spring, which I find super effective for blood circulation; I feel my legs are less heavy after a course. I combine this cure with drainage to boost the lymphatic and blood systems.
What advice would you give to people who haven't yet tried self-massage?
I would advise them to do it as part of their routine, whether in the morning or evening, depending on their rhythm. Personally, I do it in the evening because I want to take more time. Just choose 2-3 movements that intuitively appeal to you and will relax you, and ideally work at least on the neck and extend to the trapezius and nape to drain and relax, the lower face to drain and lift, and the eyebrows and forehead with pressure for immediate soothing.
What simple massage can one do alone to boost radiance in 5 minutes?
On clean skin, apply a serum then a moisturizing oil or cream to the face, neck, and décolleté. Then breathe deeply, relax your jaw. With your hand flat, smooth the décolleté from one side then the other. Smooth your neck from the collarbones towards the ears and "pinch" the trapezius. Smooth upwards on the face from the chin towards the ears with pressure. Smooth around the eyes and smooth the forehead with the palm of your hand, putting the full weight of your head on your hands. Then smooth with your fingers or hooked fingers: the jaw, the cheeks by drawing out the cheekbones, the eye contour, the eyebrows, and the forehead with the palm of your hand. If you're unsure of the lines, smile in front of the mirror and you'll understand them immediately!
What do you consider the true pillars of well-being?
Surrounding yourself with good people, eating well, exercising, and enjoying those and what you love!
What simple daily ritual is essential for self-care, in your opinion?
Drink plenty of water, get fresh air, and keep your skin well hydrated!
