What if we refused to grow old?

Only 20% of aging is linked to our genetic makeup – 80% is linked to our lifestyle. How can we eat and adapt our lifestyle to better navigate the passing years?

Et si on refusait de vieillir ? Et si on refusait de vieillir ? Et si on refusait de vieillir ? Et si on refusait de vieillir ?

Dr. David Sinclair is a biologist and professor of genetics at Harvard University. He is a leading figure in the anti-aging field in the United States. (He is nicknamed the 'Guru of Longevity' by Time US).

According to his research, only 20% of aging is linked to our genetic heritage . 80% is linked to our lifestyle: what we eat, when we eat, the sport we do, our environment, the cosmetics we use, etc.

According to him, aging is not inevitable; it is a disease that can be cured.

He compares aging to scratches on our DNA (like on a DVD—which disrupts playback and leads to diseases that result in poor health at the end of life). While life expectancy in wealthy countries is increasing, healthy life expectancy tends to decline dramatically.

Not only could we slow down aging, but actually rejuvenate?

Dr. Sinclair conducted numerous experiments on mice — and was able to rejuvenate menopausal mice and make them fertile again, with high-quality eggs — impressive, isn't it?

His book "Lifespan" is fascinating. Dr. Sinclair recounts his childhood in Australia, his scientific research, and his experiments on himself. We also discover his personal routine.

What is Dr. Sinclair's "Benjamin Button" prescription?

Cold

Keeping our bodies at moderate temperatures accelerates aging. Conversely, exposing them to temperature variations activates longevity genes.
His advice? Go outside even when it's very cold, sleep in a cool room (18°C), take cold showers and ice baths (see Wim Hof). The ultimate? A Scandinavian-style sauna followed by a plunge in the snow.

Hunger

Being hungry also activates longevity genes. Our "sedentary" lifestyle with abundant food is the cause of premature aging.
His advice: wait until you feel hungry to eat. Personally, Dr. Sinclair only eats once or twice a day. If he eats twice, one of the meals is very light.

Food

Dr. David Sinclair recommends a plant-based diet (and even better, one made from plants that have had to withstand attacks, like grapevines!). He doesn't eat mammals and avoids bread and pasta—and never has dessert! The message is clear: no added sugar, no gluten, and plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables.

The Bone Broth treatment is natural, rich in protein, sugar-free and fat-free — and a great source of collagen!

Supplements

David Sinclair talks a lot about resveratrol (which he takes daily) — an antioxidant found in grapes — and red wine. The dose of resveratrol he takes each morning is equivalent to several hundred glasses of wine — something to avoid if you don't want to end up needing a liver transplant! He also takes metformin as a preventative measure (his family has a high predisposition to diabetes), as well as vitamins D and K2.

Sport

Physical activity is very important for staying young. After age 50, Dr. Sinclair recommends doing twice as much exercise and alternating between endurance and high-intensity activities (such as weightlifting).
